- 3,200 ACRES, 15+ villages affected, 11 miles long, 4 miles wide
- Over 2 million solar panels, 110km of footpaths overwhelmed
- 75% on Green Belt, 45% of panel area on best & most versatile (BMV) farmland
- Within the setting of Blenheim Palace, threatening rare water meadows by the Thames and adjacent to many other heritage assets.
Change.org PETITION:
Photovolt Development Partners (PVDP), together with local land owners – notably Blenheim Estate – is planning to build a huge solar generation plant in the heart of the Oxfordshire countryside that will dwarf in scale anything else seen in the UK, and even Europe.
The proposal would cover 3,500 acres of countryside, including Green Belt land – equivalent in area to 2,000 football pitches – in and around the villages of: Filchampstead, Church Hanborough, Long Hanborough, Bladon, Begbroke, Yarnton, Worton, Cassington, Wootton, Cumnor, Farmoor, Glympton and Tackley.
We believe solar generation should be done via rooftop installations on domestic and commercial properties, not green spaces and productive farmland. The proposed site would mean the loss of vast swathes of arable farmland and lead to a significant reduction in biodiversity in the affected area. The net environmental impact of such a development would be negative, not positive.

Mission Statement
The Stop Botley West Campaign (a private company limited by guarantee) is a community group of volunteers dedicated to protecting the heritage, environment and amenities of Oxfordshire from significant and long-term damage caused by the proposed Botley West Utility-Scale Solar Power Station. We will achieve this by stopping or significantly reducing the scale of the Botley West proposal while promoting alternative renewable energy solutions to achieving the decarbonisation of Oxfordshire’s economy.
We believe our ambitious climate targets must be achieved sustainably by:
* Achieving the right balance between clean energy, nature preservation and food security
* Using the full range of renewable energy solutions including community solar farms and solar on rooftops and brownfield sites as well as energy saving measures for homes, industry and transport
* Promoting the health and wellbeing of all our citizens.
The Town of Woodstock and the Villages of Begbroke, Bladon, Cassington, Church Hanborough, Combe, Cumnor, Eynsham, Farmoor, Filchamstead, Freeland, Kidlington, Long Hanborough, North Leigh, Tackley, Wootton, Worton, Yarnton and the fringes of Oxford at Botley all lie within 2km of the site. The Community Consultation Zone comprises 22,000 households with nearly 11,000 of those being within 1.5km of the site.
